The concept of the story is a very scary one, particularly in light of so many atrocities committed involving attacks on women and children. Too many perpetrators go unpunished. This story uses almost brutal imagery to a point one starts to cringe.Needless to say, it is difficult to put down, especially since you become personally involved in wanting to stop the crimes and kill off the perpetrator(s) of such horrific crimes. On the other hand, you become annoyed with some of the "good" characters for not heeding caution when dealing with suspects or ignoring obvious clues.
Top marks for the author. The subject matter is not a comfortable one to deal with.

Snatched A gripping and heartbreaking thriller eBook Stephen Edger Reviews
Despite the fact i'm never excited about any form of love story line being written into my literature, this is still more a mystery than anything. With a plot that causes the reader to keep jumping from suspect to suspect, it ends in satisfactory conclusion the way we would all love such crimes to end.
This book started with a bang and ended with one. I could not put it down. So many relationships are explored in this book. I truly felt like I was there watching it all happen. To bad it is over, I really liked and felt drawn to the characters who all had such real personalities I felt like I knew them. This was a great thriller from start to finish. Can’t wait to read more of his books.
Pedophile/murderer, sensitive scenario for many, I caution. A heart wrenching case facing a female detective and her soul mate, primary school teacher when one of her seven year old students goes missing. Was it a stranger, the parents, the uncle, a local sports celebrity, the mysterious caller with the French accent or someone from one of their pasts? The teacher turns amateur detective when the love of her life is suddenly killed as the result of a suspicious accident and though the police don't agree, sets out to prove the two are related. I liked this book very much. The author did not go into dialects that are so over done by many English authors and detract from the story yet you still got the flavor of country from his well written English grammar. The characters were personable without the over indulgence of minute description that can sometimes become tedious and rambling and wear down the plot. I truly enjoyed this book.
This seemed to be a good detective story until the female main character started fragmenting in unlikely ways. And then the bad guy became a bit of stretch as well. I read it to the end when the unlikley cop comes out smelling like a rose. I guess it COULD have happened that way but I did not find the characters consistent or lovable.
I would NOT read another book by this author.
Starting out, this book has everything you would like to see in a mystery, crime novel. The prologue was very interesting, and gripping. I found myself curious and anxious to know more of what happened to the little girl Natalie. I was a little disappointed after reading the prologue how the story turned and wasn’t as gripping, but once I continued to read more, it did pick up again. As I read, I found myself thinking like the detectives on the case did. I wanted them to catch the horrible person that would do this to an innocent child, and at times I thought, how much more could happen! This novel is full of twists and turns. Right before all the clues were put together, I finally figured out who was behind everything and I could not believe it! I was shocked and surprised at the same time. The ending really took me by surprise and I still cannot believe it.
Overall, this was a good mystery and crime novel. I thought the author did well putting the pieces together and making the whole case seem real to me. I am looking forward to reading more from this author and finding out what would can happen next with his other works!
I bought this book a while back, loved the first chapter, and then couldn't get into the rest no matter how I tried. The author is obviously talented, the story is engaging, but that "something lacking" people keep referencing is research and character development.
Sarah Jensen is the sweet, pretty young schoolteacher. Innocent, kind, and reasonably intelligent, she is a walking stereotype -- except that she's gay.
Erin, Sarah's girlfriend, is another stereotype. A gay, female police officer who has to work hard to prove she's "one of the guys", and somewhat succeeds. Well muscled, but with a "soft face that shows her feminine wiles".
D.I. Vincent is a self-styled "man's man" and wavers between that cliché and the portly, balding, mustachioed boss/detective from every B-grade movie/tv show I saw growing up.
We have the brow-beaten, dead-beat father, the weary, world-worn absent minded mother, and of course, little Natalie, who (other than a single bad decision at the ripe old age of seven) seems to be the perfect child. Pretty, smart, obedient, good-grades, great artist, eager-to-please.
This leaves a distance between the reader and characters which made it difficult to fully immerse myself in the story.
No one follows any sort of coherent police procedure, everyone except the teacher and her (SPOILER soon-dead) girlfriend seems completely clueless. None of the motivations make any sense...
Oh, let's not forget the alcohol. In the span of a (school) week, the pretty teacher wakes up hung over and disoriented every single morning, her father and the missing girl's uncle are consistently found in the pubs, D.I. Vincent ponders suicide after a game of Russian Roulette between himself and a bottle of whiskey, and Erin, a recovering alcoholic, is found dead with a toxic amount of alcohol in her blood stream.
In fact, outside of the investigation, all any of the characters ever seem to do is drink. My concern for their livers is unparalleled.
Why did I even read this through to the end? Why give it 4 stars? Well, despite the above (and many more) problems, the story itself was engaging and entertaining. If you are capable of suspending disbelief, it's a fascinating, well-written story.
I wouldn't like to read another story at this level any time soon, but as an early effort, this shows a lot of promise. I can see this author (with time and a bit of effort put into *craft*) becoming very good at his art. I look forward to reading his future works.
Overall, though I can't pin down *why* it was good, there was just something about this story that made me want to read more.
